We needed to re-establish ourselves with victory after the matches against Marseille and Lille where we were a bit ineffective. This evening, we dominated the match. We established a very good lead. We were effective offensively and defensively. It was a perfect performance.

Do you savour this victory even more in the absence of several major players?

It was the club’s project to build a small team in order to integrate the young players. This evening, we had to keep in reserve the players who will play in the Coupe Gambardella this Sunday, because it’s important for the reputation of the club. That’s why I didn’t play Charles Abi. In any case, it was a good opportunity for these youths who have joined a winning team.

Was ASSE too strong for Caen?

Saint-Étienne was very serious against a team in doubt. I’ve experienced this over the course of my career. You can’t give up. There are 9 matches remaining for Caen. We wish them success in their mission.

How do you explain this renewed confidence?

Hard work pays off. We had a good week of training in camera because I wanted the youths to be able to prepare themselves calmly. It’s important to win before an international break.
