Yohan Cabaye : "Take a stand"
On the eve of their match in le Gard, the midfielder bore witness to the solidarity that drives the Verts forward before facing Nîmes.
How is the team experiencing the current situation?
We’re struggling but everyone inside the locker room is concerned by this negative period. We all want to get out of it, so we’re taking a stand. In these difficult moments, you have to dive into your work. It’s by staying solid together and with the coach that we’ll get out of this. It’s by committing completely. It’s in situations like these ones that we see the character of the players. Our team is composed of great players. I’m sure that we’ll demonstrate this in the days and weeks that follow. The beginning of this season does not represent who we are.
What are the reasons for this negative start?
If I had the answer, we would not be here to talk about it. There are things that we’re lacking that’s for sure, because we’re not winning. Yet every player on the team wants to reverse the situation. Every game, we step onto the field and give it our all. Unfortunately, success escapes us. We can’t let anything go and we have to maintain our confidence. Looking back on our progress will not help us. It’s up to us, on the field, to make sure that the results turn in our favour. This will happen by committing completely.
Have you spoken in the locker room?
I’m quite shy but when I feel it’s necessary, I speak. On the team, there are already experienced players who do this well.
What do you think of Nîmes, Wolfsburg then Lyon, your next adversaries?
Our next three matches will be difficult but that’s the way it is. We have to face this situation. It’s may be no more difficult than winning matches consecutively to show the real character of this team. We know that this will be very difficult, but we’ll be mentally present, do our job as best as possible, and do so starting tomorrow. We’re professionals. We can miss gestures on the field, but we can’t not give it our all. That’s something the entire team knows.
