With style, Les Vertes dominate Montpellier

Context

After earning their first point in Le Havre despite being a man down for almost the entire first half, Sébastien Joseph's Les Vertes are preparing to host Montpellier (7th, 6 points) at Salif-Keita in front of a packed crowd this Saturday.

The only changes to the starting lineup at Le Havre's Stade Océane are Amandine-Pierre Louis and Rachel Corboz. Nadjma Ali Nadjim, Adèle Connesson, and Sofie Hornemann are lined up on the front line.

Game scenario

There's no doubt about it, Les Vertes have made the better start to the game! Numerous attacking runs, particularly from Adèle Connesson, are pushing back the Hérault defense. Rachel Corboz hits the crossbar with her left foot from a good free kick at the edge of the box (10'). But it's Alice Pinguet's net that is the first to be rattled... After a breakaway and a fine save by the goalkeeper, who was named Player of the Month for October, Rouquet follows up to push the ball into the net (0-1, 13'). Five minutes later, Sarah Cambot finds Sofie Hornemann in the box. The tall Green striker manages to turn and shoot. The ball was blocked, but it came back to Rachel Corboz, who managed to equalize with a beautiful volley (1-1, 18'). Les Vertes were clearly on a roll, but Rachel Corboz's shot was saved (23') and Nadjma Ali Nadjim's shot went wide (25'). This lack of realism was not shared by their opponents on the day. Found on the wing and forgotten by the Saint-Étienne defense, Rouquet opened up her foot to beat Alice Pinguet at the near post (1-2, 37'). Undeterred, Les Vertes pushed forward again.  But they hit the crossbar for the second and third time in the match. First by Sofie Hornemann with a volley (40th minute), then by forcing the defense to clear a header from Aleksandra Gajic, who was looking for the Danish striker (44th minute). The green and white determination finally paid off when the number 9, found by a cross from Chloé Tapia, forced the defense into a mistake just before the break (2-2, 45th minute).

The orange and blue double goalscorer created the first chance of the second half. Launched down the wing, Rouquet saw her shot graze Alice Pinguet's post (47'). At the other end, Adèle Connesson's attempt also failed to find the target (48'). With the opposing defense slow to clear the ball, Sarah Cambot stole it in the six-yard box to set up Sofie Hornemann with an open goal. Les Vertes took the lead for the first time in the match (3-2, 55'). After a few changes, chances became fewer and farther between. Nadjma Ali Nadjim's header from a cross went well wide (71st minute). Sofie Hornemann's header from a corner was cleared as it was heading towards goal (73rd minute). Alexandria Lamontagne's dangerous cross, which no one got on the end of, grazed the post (74th minute). Up front, Nadjma Ali Nadjim threw herself at the ball but failed to get her shot on target in front of goal (78'). Rachel Corboz converted a penalty awarded for a handball in the box to seal the win for Les Vertes (4-2, 80')! The match ended with a Montpellier player being sent off for a second yellow card.  

A well-deserved and spectacular victory for the valiant Greens!
