Sofie Hornemann, Les Vertes' new forward
The second summer signing for Les Vertes, Sofie Hornemann, a Danish U23 international, joins AS Saint-Étienne’s squad competing in the Arkema Première Ligue.
Born in Kolding, southern Denmark, Sofie Hornemann is the latest addition to AS Saint-Étienne’s attacking line! At 23, the striker joins Les Vertes from Brøndby IF. She began her career with KoldingQ, her hometown club, where she quickly made her mark by scoring goals and entering the professional world at just 17 years old.
In her first two seasons in the Danish top division, Hornemann played 42 matches and scored 7 goals. In 2021, she signed with reigning Danish champions HB Køge. Within this highly competitive squad, the young forward continued her development, playing 12 matches and scoring twice during a half-season stint. She then returned to KoldingQ, where she once again showcased her talent, netting 10 goals in 29 top-flight games.
In summer 2023, Danish football powerhouse Brøndby IF brought Hornemann on board. The 12-time champions placed their trust in the Danish U23 international, who has earned 31 caps at youth level. Over two seasons, she made 10 decisive contributions and played in the Champions League qualifying rounds. In November 2023, she scored an audacious backheel volley, hailed by some as one of the most beautiful goals in Danish league history.
Now, her career continues in France. The 23-year-old joins Sébastien Joseph’s squad to lead ASSE’s attack. Velkomst!
Sofie Hornemann: “I’m very excited and extremely proud to join AS Saint-Étienne. I hope to bring lots of energy, strength, and be decisive to help the team. The next few weeks will be exciting—I’ll get to know my new teammates and build chemistry with them on the pitch. I hope we’ll click quickly!”
Sébastien Joseph, Head Coach: “Sofie is a powerful and clinical striker. She can play as a target forward or operate in front of goal as a poacher. We hope she’ll bring us all her efficiency!”
Sofie Hornemann’s ‘Vert l’Avenir’ Commitment
As part of its CSR program "Vert l’Avenir", AS Saint-Étienne invites all employees, including players, to choose one of the four ASSE Cœur-Vert main concerns : Environment, Citizenship, Sport for All, and Health.
This season, Sofie Hornemann will take part in initiatives promoting Health.
