Rémy Cabella : "It will be emotional"

Going back to Montpellier, the club where he was trained, the number 10 Stéphanois doesn’t hide the particularity of Friday’s match for him. Potentially on his way to the Europa League, he doesn’t intend to falter with 4 matches to go before the end of the season.

Is it special to play in Montpellier?

It will be emotional. It’ll be the first time that I’ll play at La Mosson without “Loulou” Nicollin. It’s also a particular match for Jean-Louis (Gasset) et Ghislain (Printant). The first time that I stepped out onto the field, I was 12 or 13, and I said that I would make my mark. To go back there to play will touch me enormously. I won the Ligue 1 Title with this club, it was exceptional but we’ll also have an important match to play when we go there.

How are you going to approach this particular match?

It won’t be a match like the others but we’ll have to try to put our emotions aside. We have a new objective, we know that it’ll be a complicated match against the championship’s second best defensive line but we’ll try to do well so that we can earn 5th place in the rankings. We want to do everything possible to continue winning and we know that with a victory we’ll put Montpellier well behind us.

In your opinion, what moment was the turning point that began ASSE’s undefeated streak?

I think the team shaped up in Nice. We felt ourselves to be a team that could deliver and produce a great game even if it ended in our defeat.

How do you judge the last few performances of your team?

We played against Strasbourg and Troyes, teams that play defensively so that they don’t fall behind. Those matches were different from the one against Paris because our adversaries played more freely. We have a coach who knows the club we’re playing against Friday well and who always has a trick up his sleeve, we don’t yet know what it is but I have confidence in him. As we saw against Troyes, you win matches by working with your entire team. Last Sunday, we won thanks to Robert (Beric) who left the bench and scored.

After having given so much to produce this undefeated streak, do you not fear that your teammates and you will lose momentum at the end of the season?
We have a very good physical trainer that adapts his regime to each player according to his judgment. He manages the training weeks well and we’re in good form for the end of the season. We want to remain undefeated until the end of the season. These last few months, we’ve been on a great adventure. We get along well together, we’re joyful and then we rest. I’m happy because we deserve what’s been happening to us.

By the way you seem liberated on the field...

Yeah, I try a lot with the ball because I’m in the moment. I’m full of confidence and I know that I can manage difficult plays. Even if I know that, sometimes, Ghislain almost has a heart attack if I lose the ball (laughing)!
