Despite playing a good game, the Verts lost due to a free kick scored by Cyprien. They dominated the second period, created openings to score but did not obtain a victory, which does not reflect the quality of their performance.
The difference between OGC Nice and ASSE is style, more precisely it’s the different dynamics that are at this moment pushing these two teams forward. Nice is walking on water after having dominated a tied match against France’s champion (2-2, against AS Monaco) and also since they’re preparing for a match against Lokomotiv Moscou, after a difficult first half of the season, much like the Stéphanois who have not yet gotten out of their downwards spiral. Unfortunately, a single goal scored from a free kick made by Cyprien was enough for Nice to win this match (OGC Nice 1-0 ASSE, 22).
Like the symbol of the lack of luck that has come to characterize them, the Verts gave way at a critical moment as unfortunately this string of defeats, except for the victory against TFC (2-0), shows not signs of ending and the team is at a loss to identify the causes of these losses.
During the second half it looked as if Romain Hamouma’s goal would tie up the score but his goal was disallowed since he was ruled as being offside. The Verts deserved better for the performance they delivered today but, as they often do, suffer for their lack of victory.
