Mathieu Debuchy: "Strong desire to win and pride"
Two days before the derby, the winger evoked the unique match that is in store for ASS, this Friday, at the Groupama Stadium (9pm).
What type of match are you expecting?
Lyon is a complete team with talented players and international players in every line. They control their matches and they’ll be at 200% for this one, that’s for sure. In the rankings, we just have one point less than them so even if we’re expecting a difficult match we’re going there with a strong desire to win and with this pride that pushes us to play great games. If we manage to earn a good outcome, we’ll maybe be able to aim for a spot higher in the rankings because right now we’re fairly well placed so that we can do better in the game. So we’re going there with humility and ambition.
Will your role as a winger be crucial for the match?
Whether it’s "Kolo", "Gabi" or me it’s part of our game to give it all we have on the wings. We’ll continue being dangerous in order to bring about more goals.
What do you think about the absence of Stéphanois fans at the derby?
We won’t play differently without them but we regret that they won’t be present at the derby again this year. It’s a shame for the players, for the clubs because they contribute much to the atmosphere. If everything could be supervised and respected as is the case at the other derbies in Europe, there wouldn’t be any misbehaviour.
