Mathieu Debuchy : "It's up to us to be mentally present”
In a press conference, before the Verts’ trip to Nantes, the International defender insisted on starting the game well.
What is the state of mind of the team after the tie game conceded in the last few moments in Oleksandria?
We quickly switched to preparing for the trip to Nantes. We must let go of our frustration in order to prepare well for the Ligue 1 match that’s coming, even if managing our fatigue is difficult. This match must remind us that we must progress in regards of ball possession, that we must be more threatening and consistent over the course of an entire match.
What are the key factors of your match against Nantes this Sunday?
We must be mentally present in the match from its beginning and play to our strengths. The overall confidence of the team is good and that is reflected in the consistency of our last few matches, taking into account all competitions. We’re very concentrated on our work. The international break that is coming will allow us to work well, but before that, we are keen to earn a good results in Nantes.
Claude Puel recently had you play on the right flank. Is this a role that you had already played in your career?
Whatever be the position that they ask me to play, I give it my all. Everyone must adapt to the game system that best suits the team. This is actually a position that I have already held, especially in Arsenal, and that requires more running, defensively and offensively. I am someone that is not afraid of making a huge effort.
