Marc-Antoine Brihat: ‘We came very close'
Despite a frustrating elimination, Les Vertes put in a creditable performance against Paris SG (1-2) in the French Cup semi-final on Saturday. With a fighting spirit, solidarity and a great home crowd, this match will be remembered as a model for the rest of the season.
XXL performance
We'd gone past extra time and it's really frustrating. The fourth referee told me that there would be 2 extra minutes because of an injury to our goalkeeper. I can't understand it, adding another 2 minutes seems huge to me, we were already in the 7th! It's difficult to digest at the moment, but I know that the group will be able to bounce back and react quickly. I'm pleased with the state of mind and the performance today. Of course, it's not all bad. It's true that we got knocked out and that's frustrating, but to be able to compete with this fine PSG team, to take them this far in the match, is a positive point that we're going to build on. Overall, I got what I wanted from the way we played and the instructions we gave. We were able to project ourselves. Of course, at some point it takes its toll on the legs, but overall I'm very satisfied. Our objective now is to get back into the top flight as quickly as possible, especially at Montpellier next weekend.
A liberating goal from the opposition
We knew that Paris SG could score at any moment. As I said in the talk and in the build-up to the game this week, if we conceded a goal, we had to be able to react. Paris is a team that often concedes a goal, and we showed that today. I really liked the way we reacted afterwards. We need to keep going in that direction.
Post-match words
A message of support and encouragement. We have nothing to be ashamed of today. We came very close, and we need this match to help us achieve our goal of staying up.
A sold-out Salif-Keita
It was enormous. From the bench, with the staff, it was great to see the stand full and the surrounding area too. The constant encouragement from the spectators was a real plus and helped the girls to keep pushing a little bit harder.
It would be exceptional to experience that again in a fortnight' time. Geoffroy-Guichard is a bigger stadium. If we can get 5,000 or 6,000 people together, that would be magnificent. We've given a very good account of ourselves today. I think we made the fans want to come back and see us.
