Les Verts continue their winning streak in Guingamp!
Solid under pressure from the Bretons and effective thanks to Zuriko Davitashvili, Saint-Étienne got the better of Guingamp at Roudourou (1-2). This victory allows them to join Reims in second place and put pressure on Troyes, who are now only one point ahead before their match on Monday.
Context
Winners against Montpellier (1-0) in Philippe Montanier's debut, Les Verts arrive at Roudourou with the aim of adding to the three points earned at Geoffroy-Guichard.
Starting XI
Buoyed by their clean sheet against Montpellier, the Loire defense remains unchanged, while Abdoulaye Kanté starts in midfield. Up front, Irvin Cardona, who made a remarkable entrance against MHSC, takes his place in the starting XI alongside Lucas Stassin and Zuriko Davitashvili. Augustine Boakye is therefore moved back into midfield for the occasion!
Game scenario
The match got off to a strong start for the Bretons! Guingamp pushed Saint-Étienne back into their own 30-yard box, but the green defensive wall held firm and cleared Sagna's shot (5'). The Loire side's solidarity is rewarded immediately by Zuriko Davitashvili's clinical finishing. After scoring from the penalty spot (0-1, 10th minute, penalty) following a foul by Lucas Stassin (9th minute), the Georgian striker heads home a perfect cross from Irvin Cardona (0-2, 14th minute). In two quick attacks, Irvin Cardona came close to setting up Lucas Stassin for his second assist, but the striker saw his shot deflected first by the outside of the post (20th minute) and then by Ortola's gloves (28th minute). In the last half hour, the Forez players continued to resist, with Igor Miladinovic blocking Louiserre's shot (30th minute), but it was Les Verts who were punished when Lucas Stassin's low shot (33rd minute) missed the target.
The home side started the second half in the same vein as the first: intense. The Red and Blacks pushed forward and tried their luck through Koffi (55'), but Gautier Larsonneur made a perfect save. After a turnover, Lucas Stassin delivered a good ball to Igor Miladinovic, but Ortola mirrored the Green goalkeeper's save (59'). Shortly after, En Avant reduced the deficit through Gomis from a corner (1-2, 60'), but Les Verts continued to try their luck through Kevin Pedro, who found himself in a good position. The youngster from Génération Verte tries a shot from a tight angle, but it is deflected (72'). The final quarter is fiercely contested, but the defenses and goalkeepers get the better of the attackers. The score remains unchanged, much to the delight of the 650 Saint-Étienne fans present at Roudourou.
