Les Vertes lose by two goals at Campus
Facing a strong Parisian side, the Greens held their own in the first half before falling apart in the second (2-0).
Context
Following a crucial victory over Lens (2-1) in front of a record crowd at Geoffroy-Guichard and a long international break, Les Vertes head to the PSG Campus to face the Parisiennes, who currently sit third and are virtually assured of a spot in the league semifinals. Les Vertes, meanwhile, are fighting to avoid relegation, and every point counts.
Starting XI
To face PSG, Yannick Chandioux has opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation featuring Alice Pinguet in goal, Marion Romanelli, Moira Kelley, Hallie Meadows, and Chloé Tapie in the back line, Faustine Bataillard and Héloïse Mansuy in central midfield, Alexandria Lamontagne, Sarah Cambot, and Nikolina Istocki in the attacking midfield, with Kaylan Bradford-Williams leading the attack.
Game scenario
The home team dominated the first 20 minutes, but French U23 international Alice Pinguet kept a close watch on the goal and was occasionally backed up by her teammates, such as Alexandria Lamontagne, on the goal line (43rd). Prior to that, Moira Kelley had a good header off a free kick by Sarah Cambot, which unfortunately went just wide of Earps’ post (23rd).After the break, Paris’s dominance paid off. Sent a ball over and around the defense, Kanjinga controlled it perfectly and crossed it to open the scoring (1-0, 53rd). Receiving a cross at the near post, the league’s top scorer Leuchter doubled the lead from close range (2-0, 73rd). In response, Nadjma Ali Nadjim made a good run but saw her powerful shot crash off the post (75th). The score remained unchanged, a result that suited the home side, who officially qualified for the championship semifinals.
Coming next
The Vertes don’t have time to dwell on it. The real relegation decider comes in three days, with an away game in the Hérault region on Saturday. At 9 p.m., they’ll face Montpellier, where a loss is not an option if they hope to remain in the Arkema Première Ligue.
