Lassana Traoré, joins les Verts and turns professional
18-year-old Lassana Traoré, a young Senegalese U20 international, signed his first professional contract with AS Saint-Étienne this Wednesday.
Born in Koumpentoum, Senegal, Lassana Traoré joins AS Saint-Étienne for his first experience away from his home country. The left-back has also signed his first professional contract, committing to the Forez-based club until 2029. The 18-year-old defender arrives in France from Diambars FC, a top-tier Senegalese club well known for its player development.
From the age of 11, Lassana developed at the “Warriors” academy, standing out as one of the most talented players of the 2007 generation. Under the guidance of Christophe Chaintreuil—former ASSE U17 coach and now Diambars’ Technical Director—he progressed steadily, also earning recognition at international level. At just 18, Lassana has already multiple appearances with Senegal’s youth teams. In 2023, he won the U17 Africa Cup of Nations, starting all six matches for the victorious Teranga Cubs. More recently, he also featured in the U20 AFCON.
Promising talent with undeniable qualities, Lassana Traoré now joins ASSE through to 2029 and will take part in preseason with the first team, starting Thursday, June 19, when Eirik Horneland’s squad resumes training.
Lassana Traoré: “I’m very happy to sign my first professional contract with ASSE. My goal now is to earn my place and contribute to the club’s objectives. I’ve already spoken with Eirik Horneland, who expects me to show what I can do!”
Loïc Perrin, ASSE Sporting Director: “Lassana is a player we scouted in Senegal and were quickly drawn to. The idea now is to integrate him into the first team. He’ll need some time to adapt, and ideally he’ll gain as much playing time as possible in his first season in Green.”
