Jonathan Détrier selected for Euro!
Called up for the third time to the French national team, the ASSE Cœur-Vert AÉSIO mutuelle player will experience his first international tournament at the European Wheelchair Football Championship next September.
Jonathan Détrier's dream of playing for Les Bleus is getting closer! Called up by the French national wheelchair football team coach for two training camps in October and April, the ASSE Cœur-Vert AÉSIO mutuelle player is one of eight French players selected for the EPFA Nations Cup.
Scheduled to take place from September 17 to 25 in Italy, the competition organized by the European Powerchair Football Association is the equivalent of the European Powerchair Football Championship. It will therefore offer the Saint-Étienne player the opportunity to wear the French jersey in an official match for the first time.
After the announcement, I must have spent two or three days on cloud nine.
“Playing for Les Bleus has always been a dream, so I'm really happy and proud to have been chosen to represent France in the Nations Cup,” says Jonathan Détrier. "After the announcement, I spent on cloud nine for two or three days, but now I have to deliver! Being selected can't be an end in itself. There's a competition coming up, and we have to go out there and win it."
Before going to Lignano Sabbiadoro on the Adriatic coast, Jonathan Détrier and the French Wheelchair Football Team will attend a training camp in Mâcon from September 13 to 16 to prepare for the competition under the guidance of David Vergé. The reigning double world champions, the French team had to settle for the title of European vice-champions in the last edition (2019) after losing to England in the final on penalties (2-2, 1-3 on penalties).
AS Saint-Étienne sends its best wishes to Les Bleus for the Nations Cup and is delighted to see Jonathan Détrier's fine season rewarded with this third selection and first participation in an international tournament. The most used player by Pascal Brousmiche during the past season, the Saint-Étienne player scored 10 goals and made 4 assists, contributing greatly to ASSE Cœur-Vert AÉSIO mutuelle's 4th place finish in Division 1.
Best of luck Jonathan, Allez les Bleus!
