Jean-Louis Gasset : "We can dream, so we do !“
Two days before Toulouse FC will be at ASSE, the coach of the Verts speaks of the work week that just passed and the team’s ambition.
How did the work week go?
We analyzed our victory against Reims. We did a good debriefing because we accomplished very good things but there are still areas where we must improve. We saw that, despite our technical control in the first half, the slightest error could allow our adversary to even the score. We have to continue on this path and remain very focused.
Could this issue scare your players?
What would they be scared of? At this moment of the season, all the players and all the coaches are experiencing the same feeling of pressure. Today, our thoughts about the future let us dream, so we do! The players want to play, so we’re going to play because even if we “only” finish in fifth place, we’ll have ended the season well. Finishing in third place would be extraordinary!
How have you welcomed the extension of William Saliba’s contract?
It’s very goods new for the club and I think that he made a good decision by extending his contract with ASSE. What we established at the end of last season is taking its course and is coming true. William is a player that we protected all season because many things were happening to him at the same time. The fact that he extended his contract for two years means that he has a career plan, that he is well advised and that he’s attentive. He still has growing to do. He has the privilege of working with starting players who have experienced the highest level of professional Football.
What does this contract extension mean for you?
It’s important to bring up the youths, that’s the basis of Football, but it’s also the most difficult thing to do. You have to advance in terms of results with the professionals while at the same time managing these young players. It’s for this reason that we use them in small doses so that they don’t get burned out. If we win the Gambardella Cup tomorrow (Saturday), that will also mean something.
What type of match are you expecting in Toulouse?
Toulouse is a team with a very solid defense. They didn’t let in any goals against Lille who has an incredibly strong offense, so they won’t give us an inch, no one will. Toulouse is also counting on three players who are given many dead balls.
