Jean-Louis Gasset : "Stay on course"
Still torn between several feelings after the tie game in Amiens, last Saturday, the Verts’ coach wishes his team to win consistently and to win against Bordeaux who he hasn’t yet defeated as ASSE’s coach.
Does the tie against Amiens have you still feeling regretful?
In regards to our state of mind, this match was bizarre. We were disappointed to only take one point but a few minutes before the last whistle we didn’t have any. We must progress in being more consistent. It’s for this reason that I’m very happy that the stadium will be full for the match against Bordeaux. I hope that the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium will help us to play very quickly like we did during the last few minutes against Amiens.
What are you expecting from Wahbi Khazri who made two assists for his return?
I expect that he will continue to be decisive. In Amiens, we tied due to an incredible opening between him and Rémy Cabella. That’s how we like to see these two players. We’re on a good path.
Robert Beric was close to being a decisive player in the match too.
He came close but he has presence in front of the net. We’re going to try to put him in the best conditions possible so that his placement and his qualities help us to win matches.
What did you think of Stéphane Ruffier’s performance?
He’s very strong and he knows it. It’s so that he’s confident that we make him play every match. Saint-Étienne can be proud to have not one but two very good goalies because Jessy Moulin manages very well the difficult role of an understudy. I congratulate him for his investment and his daily mindset.
In light of the calendar, are you optimistic for the end of the season?
We have to stay on course and improve in the game while being more effective. I know that there’s still work to do but when you’re four points ahead you owe it to yourself to tackle the matches with confidence and without putting too much pressure on yourself. The objective is to win our next match because they beat us in the first leg of the championship and because they put an end to our undefeated streak last year.
