Jean-Louis Gasset: «Let's not forget where we were few weeks ago»
Even if his players just earned 10 points out of 12, the coach of Les Verts wants his team to show humility before the derby.
How did you prepared the derby this week ?
I asked the players to be humble and not to talk to the medias because we have a game to prepare. It is not the case to talk about what happened in October. We made the choice to recruit experienced players who are used to play big games and who could give confidence to the team. On Sunday, at 5.00, we will know if we are in better situation.
Why do you want your players to be humble ?
Today, I have the impression that people forgot where we were not a long time ago. They only think about Sunday. The derby makes people forget about the points we earned in February. We got 10 points out of 12 with 2 away games and a game against Marseille. Debuchy and Subotic joined us only few weeks ago. Now, we are going to face a team with very high ambitions and which is qualified for the Europa League last 16 Round.
Has ASSE many chances to win this derby ?
We still need to face Lyon, Paris and Monaco in the League and I have not planned to win these games. However, the point we earned against Marseille showed us that is possible. On Sunday, we are going to play this game but it will not have consequences on the other games of the season. Even if we win, nothing will be accomplished.
Why ?
I know football and I know that everything can change quickly. In the last weeks, we have been doing good and in Amiens we managed to win thanks to a little bit of luck. We try to work on all the small details and no one can say that a win on Sunday is impossible for us.
Do you have a clear starting eleven team in your mind ?
Everybody can play. It will be though to choose 18 players and the starting line-up. I have 5 or 6 offensive players. Some of them can even play in several positions. We often have players coming from the bench that make the team win. It shows that they understood the message and that we can use a B plan if A plan doesn’t work.
