The Verts coach underlined the great performance of his players as they showed a lot of character to win an important game against Angers, on Saturday evening (0-1).
Are you happy with the win of your team ?
In the last fifteen minutes, Angers had many free-kicks and opportunities to score. However, we had 60% of ball possession and our opponent didn’t play offensively. Therefore, one can’t say that it is not deserved result at all. We defended very well our goal and we were lucky in some occasions with Stéphane Ruffier or Mathieu Debuchy’s saves. Unfortunately, we never managed to make the difference in the opponent goalkeeper area. We still have a long way to go but I liked our state of mind : we were not happy with only one point, we wanted the victory.
Did Angers surprise you by playing so defensively ?
No it didn’t as they always played this way when I would come with PSG. Therefore I imagined they could play this way, especially because they have a very fast forward (Karl Toko Ekambi).
Is this win the best way to prepare the derby ?
Tonight, we have 33 points and there are still 12 games to be played. We are aware that we still have to face Lyon, Paris and Monaco, big games though. Even if I know the derby is a very important game, we will play it like the other 11 games.
Being back in the first half of the table is your priority ?
The objective is to get 42 points as soon as possible. Then, we will have time to look ahead. Tonight’s game was fundamental because our opponent was in the 18th spot and our win give us 8 points clear on them now. It’s a very good result for us.
