Jean-Louis Gasset : "An exceptional streak"
After the victory against Montpellier (0-1), the Stéphanois coach was ecstatic about the undefeated streak realized by his team that now spans 13 matches without defeat!
How would you describe your victory tonight?
It was a great labour. Montpellier prevented us from playing our Football by really putting the pressure on us. We had to really demonstrate our values of solidarity and combativeness in order to resist and earn this success, but we also relied on an exceptional goalie who played a great game.
What are the reasons for your satisfaction?
During the second half, we had several counter attack situations, but as I repeat regularly, in Football, the most difficult thing is to score goals. This evening, we scored one more goal than our adversary, which is essential. My players need breathing room, I gave them three days to rest in order to recharge their batteries with their loved ones before beginning to prepare to face Bordeaux in the Chauldron.
How do you explain the difficulties that the team faced during the second half?
We had to face the aggressiveness of Montpellier that prevented us from enforcing our style of play. We’re not good with headers, which explains why we lost so many balls.
What is your opinion of your 5th place ranking?
I simply look at the number of points that we have. We’re in the process of realizing a great streak. This team achieves something during every match. It had been difficult in Strasbourg. Tonight, the team knew how to respond to the combat that our opponent imposed on us.
Is it peculiar for you to win here, in Montpellier?
It’s not winning here that’s peculiar but rather playing here. I knew that coming here without the boss present would be difficult emotionally. By losing Louis Nicollin, Montpellier lost much but Laurent, his son, is doing a really good job and this team has the points to finish the season well.
