Ghislain Printant : "I believe in this team"
The Stéphanois coach is determined to straighten out this situation. For him, victory is the sole objective before FC Metz arrives at the Cauldron.
How did you prepare for this match?
By remaining focused on tomorrow’s objective (Wednesday). The situation is what it is and we are the first to be blamed. We have to come out of this in solidarity, together. We know that we have missed many things. In our matches, we’ve never proven to be consistent. Tomorrow, victory is crucial for the club.
How are you personally experiencing this situation?
I’m the coach of AS Saint-Étienne. In my life, I have never given up. I have always had to prove myself, I have always had to work. I can be said to have many faults but I try to instil this spirit in my team. I do not shirk my responsibilities, whether it be in front of my managers, the press, or the fans. I’ve always stood on my own two feet. I’m in Ligue 1 and that’s normal. What counts the most are my players. When I speak with them, I feel they’re a receptive group. But I expect strong performances on the field. I want to win. And we’re going to win. I believe in this team. I will do everything I can for the players to once again find the path to victory.
Do you feel the support of your team?
I feel it in the work, in how they listen. Right now, that must translate into results. Football calls for results. Today, we don’t have them. Last Sunday, in Angers, I heard the anger of our fans which is warranted. I am unhappy for them. I then spoke. I showed my team that I was capable of standing on my own two feet. The leader must be stronger than his troops. The fans, even disappointed will be behind us. They know that we need them. Whatever its form, let’s go for a win.
Were you asked to leave?
No! I had an interview with Roland Romeyer. What was said remains between him and me. We must ignore everything that can be written.
Are you hurt by the critics?
I accept them of course. That they take shots at me doesn’t bother me. The job demands it. I accept this as long as it doesn’t go beyond some limits… In a while, we’ll have a match. We’re going to work and prepare well for Wednesday’s match. I hope that we’ll really be in the game, for our fans and for our club. Earning three points is the only thing that counts.
