ESTAC 1-1 (4-3) ASSE: the Verts don't capitalize

The Stéphanois dominted the entire match, had several opportunities to secure their qualification but were finally defeated by Troyes during the shootout. Cruel defeat!

After the match in Nice where the Verts played their best, ASSE played their third game of the week away from their home turf and lost once again in Troyes. Unfortunately, the team didn’t manage to capitalize on the openings that would have given them the qualification that they deserved. Troyes took advantage of this. The upside is that since Jean-Louis Gasset left some of his main players in Saint-Etienne, some of the youths from the ASSE Academy were able to show everyone what they’re made of.

While the Verts dominated the beginning of the match, they let Troyes open the score at the 24th minute (ESTAC 1-0 ASSE, 24) and neither Ben Karamoko nor Hernani were able to turn the tables on their opponent.

However ASSE succeeded in doing just that in the first three minutes of the second half. Taking a pass from Jonathan Bamba, Habib Maïga was able to score the Verts’ first goal of the game (ESTAC 1-1 ASSE, 48) but unfortunately this was to be the team’s first and last goal of the match.

The Stéphanois created many openings to score but did not manage to capitalize on them. Jean-Louis Gasset allowed Dylan Chambost and Mahdi Camara to take the field, which marked the beginning of their professional careers. Neither of the two teams refused to give any ground before the end of the regulation game time.

Many of the Stéphanois including Dylan Chambost managed to take shots on net but to no avail and Troyes made the Verts pay for their lack of follow-through by winning the shootout 4-3. By not having managed to earn their qualification, only the championship remains and ASSE will have to, this time, capitalize on their openings to score.
