Eirik Horneland: "The Result We Needed"
While more satisfied with the 2-0 victory than the overall performance of his team, AS Saint-Étienne's head coach, Eirik Horneland, reflected on the high-stakes match and the extended suspense at the end of Ligue 1's 33rd round. He also discussed the uncertainty and significance of the upcoming match against Toulouse next Saturday (9 PM) and extended an invitation to the Green supporters to fill Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium.

A relieving result
It's a relief. We began the match well, taking the lead early on. We could have done even better, as after the break, Reims came back into the game. In the second half, we were under pressure. But the team's spirit made the difference; the players fought hard and held onto the result. It's encouraging to see the players battling together. This clean sheet is also important.
Well managed Key Moments
At times, we displayed confidence, particularly in midfield, where we managed to dictate the tempo of the game. This allowed us to control possession. Pierre (Ekwah), Florian (Tardieu), and Aïmen (Moueffek) did an excellent job, as did others, notably our central defence. The success we had tonight was deserved because we approached the game with the right mindset. We were hungry for the ball. Against Monaco, the key moments went against us. Today, they turned in our favour.
The End of the Evening and the Week Ahead
At the final whistle, I initially chose to focus on our own performance and what we could have improved, rather than immediately turning my attention to the Le Havre vs. Marseille match. Later on, like the rest of the locker room, I followed that game. It's good that it ended this way.
However, Toulouse hasn't finished its season yet; we'll need to deliver a strong performance. Just like tonight, we mustn't play the match too early in our minds. From the start of the week, we need to work with the same discipline and focus on our objective so that we can embrace the pressure when the time comes.
Tonight, we didn't deliver a top performance, but we achieved the necessary result. We managed the occasion well. Our presence in the playoffs? It's not solely in our hands; we know that. We could win this last match and still be relegated. We need to create an incredible atmosphere and bring the supporters along with us.
