Eirik Horneland: 'A Fantastic Debut!'
First match on the Saint-Étienne bench, first victory for Eirik Horneland, pleased with the values displayed and the performance delivered by les Verts against Reims (3-1).
A Team Performance
"I didn’t know what to expect before this match. We worked in training on attitudes, on certain patterns. I expected to experience some interesting moments in this game and others that would be more difficult. But this is a fantastic start! I loved seeing this team play like that, watching some players express themselves in this way with a true collective spirit. To play this match after losing the previous four in a row, being behind at halftime... it required real mental strength from the players. Scoring three goals in this context is a very impressive performance!"
His Words at Halftime
"It was necessary to instill belief and conviction in the players, to tell them we were capable of scoring two goals and turning this match around. After the break, we also needed to have more control in certain situations, which we sometimes lacked in midfield, and to show patience as well. When we regained possession, I loved seeing my players push forward. Now we need to be able to create chances starting from deeper positions. (...) Having a playing style is very important. I saw players who were relaxed on the field, capable of working hard to create many opportunities. That allowed them to gain confidence, and that’s exactly what this group needs."
His Attitude on the Sidelines
"It’s always like that (laughs)! The players can draw inspiration from it."
