Back in Strasbourg, the Greens lose
Back in Strasbourg for the seventh matchday of the Arkema Première Ligue, Les Vertes were unable to reverse the trend and lost 2-0.
Context
After their first win of the season at Salif-Keita against Montpellier (4-2), Les Vertes (11th) traveled to Alsace on Saturday, November 8, to face Strasbourg (9th). The weather conditions made that only 34 minutes of play were possible. The match was interrupted due to fog and postponed until Wednesday, November 19.
Starting XI
Sébastien Joseph made two changes to his starting lineup compared to the team that beat Montpellier. Marion Romanelli returned to the pitch and the right side of the defense, while Alexandria Lamontagne started as left forward. On Wednesday, the same eleven players took their places again.
Game scenario
In the thick Strasbourg fog at the beginning of November, the home team got off to a better start. Taking advantage of a Saint-Étienne clearance, they quickly put pressure on the goal (1st minute) and then benefited from a seemingly generous penalty. Hannequin converted the penalty, wrong-footing Saint-Étienne goalkeeper (1-0, 5th minute). Les Vertes reacted and Faustine Bataillard took a chance from distance. Her powerful shot narrowly missed the goal (8th minute). Alice Pinguet made a solid save from a shot from a tight angle (15th minute). Just after Aigbogun was sent off for a second yellow card, the referee sent the players back to the locker rooms... and scheduled the rest of the match to be played in more than 10 days.
On Wednesday, after resuming play in the 34th minute, the home team had their first half-chance with a cross-shot from Beche (40th) caught by Alice Pinguet. Then Sofie Hornemann stood out after a recovery by Faustine Bataillard. The green striker sent a powerful left-footed shot just wide of the goal (42nd).
Back from the locker room, the home team had another chance, and this time they scored. From a corner kick, Pinto headed the ball out of reach of our goalkeeper (2-0, 52nd minute). There were few chances to report on either side until Nadjma Ali Nadjim's long-range shot was caught (76th minute). Rachel Corboz's shot, well set up by Adèle Connesson, flew over the bar in the last ten minutes (82nd minute). Héloïse Mansuy's shot from more than 20 meters forced the goalkeeper into a double save (85th minute). The next shot, from Welma Fon, grazed the post (90th + 2). The final moments of extra time brought pressure but failed to reduce the deficit. Les Vertes were defeated.
