ASSE 2-2 OM: The Verts’ Winter Olympics!
The Key to the Match
Nine goals scored in Bourg-en-Bresse in the Coupe de France, six against Metz, a few days earlier, a right-winger who was recorded as having the best statistics of any French player on the continent and only one defeat since October. These are the achievements of OM shortly before the onset of the match, this Friday, in the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium. So, after the opening of the score by Florian Thauvin at the 4th minute, we feared the worst for the Verts who were deprived of Rémy Cabella and Yann M’Vila. It was not thanks to them that the Verts evened the score but it was rather thanks to Kévin Monnet-Paquet who scored the Verts’ first goal of the game after accepting a pass from Romain Hamouma (10th). Although Morgan Sanson quickly took the lead once again for Marseille (20th), the Stéphanois never gave up and played strong until the end. Jean-Louis Gasset played all of his offensive cards during the second half (Ntep, M’Vila, Beric). He really had a good idea to play the Slovene who scored the Verts’ second goal of the evening (75th) after taking a pass from the decisive Jonathan Bamba. In the cold, in the snow but dressed as the warriors that they are, the Verts earned a much deserved point, thanks to Stéphane Ruffier’s final block of a shot made by Thauvin (90th). From the goalie to the strikers, from the main players to the substitutes, all the Stéphanois played their part to achieve this outcome this Friday evening in the Cauldron.
