Aleksandra Gajic, sixth summer recruit for Les Vertes

18-year-old Serbian central defender Aleksandra Gajić joins ASSE for her first experience in France and the Arkema Première Ligue!

Aleksandra Gajić goes green! Promising central defender, the young player joins AS Saint-Étienne from her native Serbia. Born in Loznica in 2006, Aleksandra Gajić began her career in her hometown before playing for ŠF Respect. Then spotted by FK Spartak Subotica, she joined the northern Serbian club in 2021. Over the next three years, she established herself as a solid and reliable defender, playing in the preliminary rounds of the Women's Champions League.

Last summer, she signed for FK TSC Bačka Topola, thanks to her performances for Serbia's youth national team, where she stood out as the strongest element of the 2006 generation, notably wearing the captain's armband with the Serbian U19s. Last season, with her former club, Aleksandra Gajić took part in 19 league games and scored 15 goals in all competitions, proving to be particularly decisive for a defensively-minded player.

In 2023, at the young age of 16, Aleksandra Gajić received her first call-up to the Serbian national team in a match won against South Africa (3-2). Regularly called up to the national team since then, the neo-Green was, until a few days ago, called up for two friendlies against Iceland and then Russia.

Aleksandra Gajić:
"I'm very happy to join AS Saint-Étienne and start this new chapter in my career. It's an exciting opportunity for me to take part in this project. My ambition this season is to adapt to French soccer and help the club achieve its objectives. I've already felt very welcome by an entire club. AS Saint-Étienne has a rich history, strong values and passionate supporters. I'm proud to wear the Green jersey!"

Sébastien Joseph, Les Vertes' coach: "It's important to strengthen our defensive line. Aleksandra already has international experience, despite her youth, which makes her a player with great potential. In addition to her defensive qualities, her passing skills will be useful to us when playing under pressure."

Aleksandra Gajić's Green l'Avenir commitment

As part of its “Vert l'Avenir” CSR initiative, AS Saint-Étienne offers each of its employees, including its players, to commit to one of the four areas of its ASSE Cœur-Vert association: Environment, Citizenship, Sport for All and Health.

This season, Aleksandra Gajić will be taking part in actions around Health.
