French U20 international center back Aboubaka Soumahoro (20) joins ASSE on loan with an option to buy from Hamburg SV (Germany).
Born in Paris, Aboubaka Soumahoro began his career in the Île-de-France region, playing for Chantiers Paris U.A and VGA Saint-Maur. Signed by Paris Saint-Germain at the age of 14, he left the capital club after two seasons... but not the City of Light, joining Paris FC shortly thereafter.
At PFC, Aboubaka Soumahoro made a name for himself with the youth teams, thanks in particular to his versatility, which allowed him to play in central defense, on the left, and in midfield. Performing well in the U19s and with the reserve team in National 3, he joined the professional squad at the age of 18 (2023). At the same time, he established himself as a key player in the French national team, notably reaching the final of the Euro U19 in 2024.
The following season, Aboubaka Soumahoro turned professional and made his first appearance in Ligue 2 BKT, starting against Caen. He played a total of 14 games in the championship before joining Hamburg, a Bundesliga club, last winter, where he discovered the elite of German football.
Loaned to ASSE this winter with an option to buy, Aboubaka Soumahoro is now back in Ligue 2 BKT with new ambitions. Welcome to our new number 18!
Aboubaka Soumahoro: “I am very proud and honored to have the opportunity to wear the Green jersey. I can't wait to meet my teammates, step onto the training grounds, and discover the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium. We have big goals ahead of us, and we must work together seriously to achieve them.”
Loïc Perrin, Sporting Director of ASSE: "Aboubaka is a versatile player. He is left-footed and can play center back, left back, and also midfield. He knows our league. He is interesting athletically and can bring strength and power to our team. He also has good technical skills, which is why he can also play midfield. He will bring us enthusiasm and energy."
Aboubaka Soumahoro's “Vert l'Avenir” commitment
As part of its “Vert l'Avenir” CSR initiative, AS Saint-Étienne is offering all of its employees, including its players, the opportunity to get involved in one of the four areas of focus of its ASSE Cœur-Vert association: Environment, Citizenship, Sport for All, and Health.
Aboubaka Soumahoro will be participating in activities related to Citizenship.
