Jean-Louis Gasset: "We're clearly progressing"
The Stéphanois coach is satisfied with his players’ second consecutive victory at the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium. He especially appreciated the technical control that they demonstrated in the second half.
Is this is an efficient victory, one you earned by scoring goals with few openings?
Yes. Scoring at the first minute then almost at the last minute of the first half when your adversary puts you in danger (he smiles)...Ahead 2-0 at half time, it’s not miraculous but it’s very efficient. After, I liked how my players controlled the match. Once the pressure they were putting on us slackened, we performed incredible feats, which might have merited a goal. We weren’t far off from doing so, especially with Rémy Cabella’s shot that struck the bar of the net. From this match I take away the quality of our second half but also our efficiency during the first half.
What did you particularly appreciate about your players?
The team is making progress. The team dominates. We had some bad moments, especially when we played defensively after the first goal, a bit like we did against Rennes. The second half is practically what I idealize about our collective game. We’re clearly progressing.
In which areas?
The technical control of the second half. We were leading 2-0, we had to make our adversaries run and attempt to score a third goal. We tried to do it and we could have. We weren’t lacking much during certain plays. We knew that it was difficult to win two consecutive victories on our home turf. Against Angers, we almost payed dearly for our mistakes. This evening, we took three new points against a team that doesn’t let in many goals. We scored two against them. That means something.
Can you give us news of Loïc Perrin, who had to give up his place during the break?
That’s the sore point of the evening. He felt a pain in one of his thighs. We’re waiting for the test results to know more. Mathieu (Debuchy) has a gash between his toes. There was just him to finish the match. At half time, he said he wanted to try. He gives his all. He’s really a warrior.
